Annita Braun
We're
looking for some serious sponsors for the 2010 season, in order to do the
Skip Barber Formula Race Series
|

|
Annita attended Skip Barbers 3
Day Formula Racing School at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway this Memorial
weekend. Skip Barber has trained many Professional race car drivers
and employs some of the best instructor in the industry. This opportunity
has given Annita new skills to work with and goals to work toward. She
really enjoyed the chance to drive an open wheel formula car on a
challenging road coarse like Laguna Seca.

I was granted a sanction exemption to the rules to allow
me to drive with SCCA Arctic Alaska region for the RallyCross race on
January 3rd in Anchorage. I place 1st for my class (2wd stock) and middle of
the pack overall. I did have an instructor with
me Taig Hoeger,
who was a big help with braking and accelerating at the correct spot. 1st
place was a big shock to me, I really didn't think I did that well. |

What is a Baby Grand?
Baby Grand stockcars are 2/3 scale replicas of Nextel Cup
Stock Cars. They use a Yamaha XJR1300 engine which produces 120-125 hp.
Each car's weight of approx. 1250 lbs., means an exciting 10:1 power to
weight ratio. These babies will set you back in the seat!
Baby Grands race on NASCAR style short tracks as well
as road courses. They are SCCA approved and have raced the road courses at
Daytona, Lowe's, Infineon, and other famous venues. This is your chance to
actually race at these tracks - not just turn laps in a driving school.
Of course if you want to race on a Saturday night
bullring, no problem - Baby Grands even feature Quick Change rear ends just
like a Late Model racer - you'll be able to quickly adapt to any track
conditions.

I was able
to practice in the Baby Grand and know I am ready to move up to it next
season so watch out for me in 2009. Because Dad is going to lose his ride
when I take over the Baby Grand |

Testing
I got the chance to
test drive a Legend Car - I had a great time and drove for about 60-70 laps.
What you can't see in this picture is my mile wide smile or me. The car was
not setup for me and I almost couldn't reach the Kill switch - if you
look hard you can barely see my helmet. But after a few laps getting use to
it I was turning in consistent mid pack lap times. Thank you Lud
Larson of Northstar Racing for the opportunity to drive the Legend.

Lyn St. James Driver Development
Program
I was accepted into
the second part of the program. I was in Indianapolis this time and it was
awesome. They crammed our heads full of information about sponsorship,
money, managers etc... In Indianapolis we were in a hotel right
underneath the stands and wow was that cool. We visited a wind tunnel and I
can honestly say that wind tunnel's are expensive. Never less it was a great
experience and I learned a lot from it.

What is a Bandolero?
Using
the same magic formula that made the Legends Cars the most
mass-produced competition car in history, officials of 600 Racing Inc
have produced the Bandolero Car. The Bandolero Car is a turn key, spec
series racer designed for drivers as young as eight years old and the
young at heart of any age.

“We wanted something to go
between a kart and a car and wanted to make it relatively simple for
everyone to drive” said H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler. For example, like a
kart, the Bandolero Car has left-foot braking and centrifugal clutch
so there is no shifting of gears for a new driver to worry about.
Simplicity and economy of design are evident everywhere, with 150
parts making up the entire package, half of what goes into making a
Legends Car.
The Bandolero Car’s motivation is powered by a
thumping Briggs & Stratton 570cc Vanguard engine mounted behind the
driver. Small modifications have been made to the engine to bring the
once 20hp stock engine to 30hp. |

Racing Quarter
Midgets in Alaska gave Annita a taste of racing. We’ve now moved
up to the Bandolero from 600 Racing. At this time we’re planning
on staying in Bandolero’s for a while. We’re hoping within the
next year or so to travel down to the “lower 48” to do some
rent-a-ride races to get used to running with a larger group of
racers.
Like everything
else to do with racing it only takes money. |
